Our mission

Making Legionella compliance straightforward

We exist to give facility managers — Italian or international — a single, documented and auditable process for Legionella risk management, so they can focus on their business with the certainty of being compliant.

For Italian facilities

Hotels, nursing homes, condominiums, gyms and industrial facilities across Italy receive a sector-tailored sampling plan, ACCREDIA-accredited laboratory analysis and an operational report with graded corrective actions — ready for ASL inspections and DVR Legionella audits.

For international operators

International hotel chains, multinational EHS teams and property management companies managing Italian assets receive consolidated English compliance documentation, a unified sampling calendar and a single framework contract covering all Italian properties.

Credentials & standards

The framework we operate under

Every technical decision — laboratory selection, sampling method, reporting format — is governed by an explicit regulatory or normative reference.

  • ISO/IEC 17025

All partner laboratories hold ACCREDIA accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025 — the international standard for testing and calibration laboratory competence, recognised under EA, IAF and ILAC mutual recognition arrangements.

  • UNI EN ISO 11731:2017

Environmental sampling and analysis follow the UNI EN ISO 11731:2017 culture method (BCYE selective agar, 7–10 days at 36 °C). Results are expressed in CFU/L and compared against ISS national action levels.

  • Italian State-Regions Agreement 2015

Risk assessments are structured according to the Italian National Guidelines for Legionella Prevention (Accordo Stato-Regioni, 7 maggio 2015), the primary regulatory reference for risk assessment, sampling frequency and corrective actions.

  • ECDC ELDSNet alignment

Observatory methodology and case definitions are consistent with the European Legionnaires' Disease Surveillance Network (ELDSNet) protocol coordinated by ECDC. Italy contributes through ISS and SEIEVA.

Our approach

Four non-negotiable principles

These are the criteria by which we select partner laboratories, train field technicians and design each service engagement.

  • Traceability

Every sample has a documented history

Formalised chain of custody from collection to laboratory reporting. Every step is documented and auditable at any point during an inspection.

  • Timeliness

    Guaranteed deadlines, not promises

Quote response within one business day. Certified test report within 7 working days from sampling, with expedited procedures available on request.

  • Transparency

    No ambiguity

Regulatory framework, analytical methods, action thresholds and corrective actions are declared in full in the operational report. No hidden formulas.

  • Technology

    Tools that make the difference

Online risk-diagnosis platform, digitally signed test reports and a shared compliance dashboard for framework contracts.

Frequently asked

Questions about who we are and how we work

Five concise answers for researchers, journalists and international operators assessing the credibility of the Observatory.

Who runs Legionella Analysis Italy?

Legionella Analysis Italy is an Italian editorial and technical project active since 2014. It coordinates a network of qualified field technicians for sampling and a curated network of ACCREDIA-accredited partner laboratories for analysis, providing a single point of contact for Legionella compliance.

How does the service work?

On-site technical survey → risk-based sampling plan → chain-of-custody sample collection → accredited laboratory analysis under UNI EN ISO 11731:2017 → signed certified test report → operational report with corrective actions and periodic monitoring plans.

Are the laboratories ACCREDIA-accredited?

Yes. We work exclusively with testing laboratories accredited by ACCREDIA under ISO/IEC 17025. Accreditation guarantees technical competence, impartiality and international recognition of results — essential for ASL inspections and cross-border regulatory reporting.

What is the typical turnaround for a test report?

Standard turnaround is 7 working days from the sampling date. For urgent pre-reopening protocols or post-incident investigations, expedited procedures are available — typically 3–5 working days — while maintaining the same methodological rigour.

Can I cite the Observatory in a peer-reviewed publication?

Yes. The dataset is released under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0). A ready-to-use APA 7 citation is available on the dataset page; a Zenodo DOI is issued for each annual report. Methodological details follow ECDC ELDSNet protocol and UNI EN ISO 11731:2017.
