LEGIONELLA EXPERT
TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION
Free online course in 8 modules covering Italian Legionella regulation, ISO sampling methodology, water system risk management and DVR Legionella documentation. Includes a final exam, a verifiable PDF certificate and a digital badge for LinkedIn — ideal for EHS professionals and facility managers at multinational operators with Italian assets.
Demonstrable competence for international EHS reporting
Multinational operators managing Italian facilities increasingly need documented evidence that local or HQ-side staff understand Italian Legionella obligations — for internal ESG audits, due diligence processes and regulatory inspections by the ASL (Local Health Authority).
DVR Legionella defensibility
A Legionella risk assessment document (DVR Legionella) is legally stronger when the responsible manager can demonstrate structured training. The certificate is referenced in audit files and ASL inspection documentation.
ESG and EHS audit evidence
International parent companies face increasing ESG disclosure requirements. Certified staff provides documented evidence of competence in water safety and biological risk management at Italian assets.
Structured onboarding for Italian sites
New EHS managers taking responsibility for Italian hotels, nursing homes or industrial plants can complete the programme before or immediately after onboarding — closing regulatory knowledge gaps quickly.
Multi-site framework alignment
A common certification benchmark enables consistent Legionella risk governance across all Italian properties — useful for internal audit and for demonstrating systemic control to insurers and corporate governance teams.
No local presence required
The online course is fully self-paced and accessible from any country. International HQ-based EHS directors can complete the programme without travelling to Italy.
LinkedIn-ready digital credential
The embeddable badge and LinkedIn-compatible certificate help EHS professionals demonstrate Italian regulatory expertise on their professional profile — increasingly valued in hospitality, healthcare and industrial REIT sectors.
Eight course modules
Each module covers a distinct layer of Legionella compliance — from biology and Italian law through to sampling, result interpretation, remediation and DVR Legionella documentation. Modules are self-paced and include a graded quiz.
- 1
Legionella Biology & Pathogenesis
Legionellaceae family, ecology, biofilm, growth parameters (25–45 °C window), serogroup 1 dominance and pathogenesis of Legionnaires' disease — the scientific foundation for all risk-based decisions.
- 2
Italian Regulatory Framework
State-Regions Agreement of 7 May 2015, Legislative Decree 81/2008 (Title X biological risk), ISS national action thresholds (CFU/L), regional variations (Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna) and the 2023 EU Drinking Water Directive transposition.
- 3
UNI EN ISO 11731:2017 — The Reference Standard
Step-by-step culture method: sterile collection in sodium-thiosulphate bottles, 24-hour refrigerated transport, membrane filtration, BCYE selective agar seeding, 7–10 day incubation at 36 °C and CFU/L result expression.
- 4
Water System Critical Points
System mapping methodology: hot-water storage tanks, recirculation loops (≥55 °C return requirement), dead-legs, low-use outlets, thermostatic mixing valves, cooling towers and humidifiers — and how each point is classified for risk scoring.
- 5
Environmental Sampling Techniques
Site survey procedure, sampling-point selection, aseptic collection at the tap (first-draw and post-flush fractions), chain-of-custody documentation, transport conditions and interface with ACCREDIA-accredited partner laboratories.
- 6
Interpreting Laboratory Results
Reading an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited test report, applying ISS 2024 action thresholds, adjusted thresholds for vulnerable populations (nursing homes, hospitals: ≥1,000 CFU/L), understanding false-negative scenarios and triggering the correct operational response.
- 7
Remediation & Disinfection Protocols
Thermal shock (70 °C for 30 min at each outlet), hyperchlorination (20–50 mg/L free chlorine), continuous chlorine dioxide dosing, hydrogen peroxide + silver systems, UV disinfection as a complement, safety procedures, remediation logbook and verification re-sampling at 48–72 h and 30 days.
- 8
DVR Legionella — Risk Assessment Document
Mandatory content of the Legionella section of the DVR (Document of Risk Assessment): facility data, system map, critical-point identification, probability × impact risk matrix, self-monitoring plan, corrective-action procedures, activity register and 24-month update cycle.
Four programme credentials
Every certified technician receives a verifiable PDF certificate, a digital badge, a public directory profile and a citation in the annual report — all at no cost.
Verified PDF certificate with QR code
An official certificate with a unique code. Anyone can verify its authenticity by entering the code on our verification page — useful for ASL audit files and internal ESG reporting.
Embeddable digital badge
