How it works

Three steps to your risk score

The tool walks you through ten targeted questions and returns an instant result with recommended actions.

  1. 01

    Answer ten questions

Ten targeted questions about your facility type, water system configuration, maintenance history and current controls.

  2. 02

    Receive your risk score

Instant risk-band calculation (low, medium, high or critical) with the highest-priority corrective actions identified by the 2015 national guidelines.

  3. 03

    Commission a targeted inspection

If you wish, we can prepare an operational proposal with sampling frequencies and intervention priorities tailored to your result.

Result bands

Four risk levels — what they mean

Each band maps to a set of corrective actions drawn from the Italian 2015 national guidelines.

  • Low risk

System correctly maintained, temperature parameters within range, recent sampling records in order. Periodic scheduled monitoring recommended.

  • Medium risk

One or more risk factors present (e.g., system segments with infrequent use, intermittent temperature deviations). Targeted sampling and corrective actions required.

  • High risk

Multiple risk factors detected: stagnation, biofilm-prone materials, inadequate thermal maintenance. Professional sampling and immediate technical review required.

  • Critical risk

Conditions conducive to active Legionella proliferation. Emergency sampling and a qualified remediation plan must be commissioned without delay.

Methodological note

Screening tool, not a diagnostic

This tool provides a pre-screening estimate: it identifies the main risk factors and helps prioritise action. For a Legionella risk assessment compliant with Italian national guidelines, an on-site technical inspection and accredited laboratory sampling are required. Our certified technicians operate across all 21 Italian regions.

Frequently asked

Questions about the self-assessment

Five concise answers for facility managers and EHS professionals evaluating the tool.

Who should use this tool?

Any facility manager, EHS officer or property manager responsible for an Italian hotel, nursing home, hospital, gym, condominium or industrial plant with a centralised hot-water or cooling system. It is equally useful for consultants conducting preliminary on-site surveys.

Does this tool replace a formal Legionella risk assessment?

No. It is a pre-screening instrument: it helps identify the main risk factors and set priorities. A legally compliant Legionella risk assessment (DVR Legionella) must be conducted by a qualified technician following an on-site inspection and accredited laboratory sampling, in accordance with the Italian State-Regions Agreement 2015.

Is the tool result legally binding?

No. The result provides indicative guidance based on the criteria of the 2015 national guidelines. It does not substitute the DVR Legionella document required by Italian law.

What happens after I get my result?

You receive a risk-band (low / medium / high / critical) and a list of priority corrective actions. If you wish, you can request an operational proposal from our team: we will define sampling frequencies, critical-point mapping and intervention timelines based on your specific facility.
